Generator & Transformer Relay Protection Setting Development and Review

TRC is supporting El Paso Electric to upgrade four existing power stations by developing new settings and other enhancements building off current plant and system parameters.

Our settings reports provide a detailed review of the proposed settings at four gas turbine generating plants including their generating units and generator step-up transformers. The settings study was reviewed, and our team recommended revised settings, if necessary where stated in the study. Relay protective elements left unused in the initial settings report were developed and added. Our relay reports developed also considered compliance with NERC Standards: PRC-006-1, PRC-015-1, PRC-019-1, PRC-024-1, and PRC-025-1.

As a result, the power stations in the El Paso Electric portfolio can ensure that the protection settings loaded in their relays are correct and up to date for the current system and plant conditions.  El Paso Electric is also able to ensure that their current protection settings are compliant with existing NERC standards.
