Los Penasquitos Lagoon Bridge Replacement

Part of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) rail corridor, the four timber trestle bridges spanning Los Penasquitos Lagoon date back to the 1920s and 1930s. Amtrak’s intercity rail service, the Pacific Surfliner and BNSF Railway, share this rail corridor with the COASTER commuter service operated by NCTD, and the Metrolink commuter service operated by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority. The bridges included in this project have aged beyond the average industry service life of 75 years. They require frequent and costly maintenance by NCTD, making replacement the most cost-effective solution. The Los Penasquitos Lagoon Bridges Replacement project, located in the City of San Diego, will improve rail infrastructure in the LOSSAN coastal rail corridor. The project will replace four aging wooden trestle railway bridges of varying lengths that cross the Los Penasquitos Lagoon with modern concrete bridges. The project was designed by the North County Transit District (NCTD) and will be constructed by SANDAG.

TRC is providing construction management services including, but not limited to, resident project manager / task order manager, resident engineer, assistant resident engineer, project controls, field inspection (civil, electrical, SWPPP), track inspection, structure inspection, special inspection, quality assurance, material testing, office engineering / document control, SWPPP / NPDES compliance, EEO / Iabor compliance, scheduling, survey checking of layout and elevations, and coordination of as-built drawings. TRC has also provided a constructability review, bid support and bid analysis, development of the CPM schedule, and a field office for the project.
