Las Vegas High Roller

TRC provided QA services during the manufacture/fabrication of the world’s tallest observation wheel at Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) in Shanghai, China, and Japan Steel Works (JSW) in Muroran, Hokkaido, Japan.

TRC was selected by Caesars Entertainment to provide Quality Assurance (QA) consulting services during the manufacture / fabrication of the world’s tallest observation wheel at Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) in Shanghai, China, and Japan Steel Works (JSW) in Muroran, Hokkaido, Japan. This observation wheel has been dubbed “The High Roller” and is set for delivery to Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The wheel is part of a $550 million open-air retail, dining and nightlife project called The Linq on the Las Vegas Strip. The High Roller soars 550 feet into the sky, some 107 feet taller than the famed London Eye and features 28 cabins. Each spherical cabin (another first for observation wheels) holds up to 40 passengers and revolves individually as the wheel itself rotates.

The operating weight of the High Roller is estimated at more than 3,300 tons. The project included four 268-foot-steel support legs, loading platform, 315 foot brace leg and a 470 foot-diameter rim attached to a 14-foot-diameter center hub using 3-inch diameter steel cables.

TRC provided QA and Nondestructive Testing (NDT) services for the fabrication of this project, in addition to laboratory destructive testing of mock-up components.
