Wisconsin Solar Development

Local relationships, tailored solutions

When SoCore Energy set out to develop 14 sites in Wisconsin and Iowa to deliver renewable energy into the electric grid, they faced an expedited siting and permitting schedule to meet project delivery requirements.

TRC supported site selection by screening multiple properties for wetlands, cultural resources and threatened and endangered species to help avoid adverse impacts and expedite permitting. From this large list, SoCore narrowed the sites down to top prospects in Wisconsin.

Following site selection, TRC provided geotechnical testing, engineering and reporting, ALTA and topographical survey and permitting services. We delineated wetlands and confirmed absence of the endangered Karner blue butterfly habitat and provided input into revegation of the sites into “pollinator gardens.” We also completed Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, stormwater pollution prevention plans and wetland permitting.

As the first large ground-mounted solar farms proposed in Wisconsin, TRC helped SoCore explain project impacts to regulators and provided innovative strategies to satisfy agency requirements.
