Queensferry Crossing Replacement

TRC is providing independent quality assurance services for the largest public works project in Scotland’s history. 

The Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC) Bridge (renamed Queensferry Crossing) is the largest public works project in the history of Scotland and is considered the single most important transportation project in the United Kingdom and possibly all of Europe. This new prestigious cable-stayed bridge is scheduled to open in 2017 and will carry two general lanes of traffic in each direction with extended shoulders to accommodate emergency vehicles and buses. The new bridge will have three slender single column towers with heights ranging between 210 and 214 meters, and will be 2.7 kilometers long, including approach viaducts. The FRC will replace the existing Forth Road Bridge, which at the time of its opening in 1964, was one of the world’s most significant long-span suspension bridges with a main span of 1,006 meters between the two towers; it was the fourth longest in the world and the longest outside the United States.

The fabricated steel and structural components are being produced in various countries including China and Spain where CALTROP currently has a strong and active presence of quality assurance personnel. This high-profile replacement bridge is a state-of-the-art design-build project involving FCBC and numerous other international firms.

TRC is providing independent quality assurance consulting services during the construction of the new cable-stayed bridge.
