TRC helped build and maintain rapport with the diverse communities impacted by construction projects along the I-5 Corridor.

TRC provided services for a public awareness contract with Caltrans District 7, which supported 10 construction projects in multiple communities throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties with multiple translation and interpretation needs. The TRC Team’s mission in District 7 was to help build and maintain good customer relations with those communities impacted by the construction projects along the I-5 corridor.

The outreach team utilized a wide range of strategies and techniques to meet the diverse needs and characteristics of stakeholders within the I-5 community. These strategies were led by our expert community liaisons, which provided Caltrans District 7 with full-service public outreach support through the duration of the highway improvements. They kept the project’s area diverse community stakeholders informed and were the eyes and ears for Caltrans staff. The liaisons cultivated relationships with residents, businesses, schools and key community leaders. They were also responsible for anticipating and resolving potential hot button issues and seeking opportunities for effective community engagement, such as holding neighborhood meetings, open houses and one-on-one briefings.

The outreach strategy included using social media as a tool for service response (answering questions) and responding to and mitigating complaints. Our team used the contract’s dedicated My5LA website and Twitter account to engage the I-5 community by providing immediate project updates as they occurred, information on upcoming construction activities, construction fun facts, photo shares and information regarding neighboring projects.
