This course will provide the critical concepts of power grid operations including generation, transmission and distribution in addition to principal knowledge about equipment found in substations and control houses.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Recent college graduates, leaders and managers, construction managers, project managers, and
entry level engineers and technicians who desire basic knowledge of grid operations and substation equipment and their functions.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe how three-phase power is delivered to customers
- State the differences between a qualified and an authorized individual
- Name and describe the purpose of equipment related to a high-voltage substation
- Name basic electrical quantities
- Define concepts related to AC power systems
- Explain various power system concepts, such as power transformer phase relationships
- Name the components of a DC control system
- Describe the functions of the components in a DC control system
- State the purpose of protection and control design
LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
This course is delivered online. Classes will run for five hours each day over four days.
In addition, students are required to complete web-based trainings before class begins. Instructors will be available for one-on-one sessions after class hours to assist students with course topics.

- Basic understanding of electrical circuits
- Basic mathematics
