Chemical Facility Security Assessment and Planning

A manufacturing plant became a regulated CFATS facility 

 

Challenge 

A long term TRC client was notified by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) they were being regulated under the CFATS program due to the volume and type of various chemicals they used and stored onsite.  The client is a contract packaging manufacturer, so the chemicals needed onsite change from month to month, making determination of chemical volumes (and the measures to protect them) difficult to determine.  

 

Solution 

TRC worked with the client to reduce volumes, assess and manage risk, and developed a security plan for review and approval by DHS.   

 

Result 

The client is much more aware of how new orders can influence their risk exposure and they manage their inventories accordingly.
