This session presents an AI-driven conflation approach developed at Duke Energy, improving asset data management in the utility sector. Serving over a million customers, Duke relies on accurate data for critical infrastructure like electric poles and substations. The conflation process merges data from multiple sources to precisely locate these assets, enabling timely inspections and maintenance—essential during emergencies such as hurricanes, including recent storms Helene and Milton.

Above-ground stations present a challenge for GIS departments due to their complex nature. Stations have been shown as a point in the geospatial database, lacking detail and requiring multiple sources to fully understand the facility. NiSource, GeoCam, and TRC have partnered to create a solution that generates and integrates station data into the ArcGIS Utility Network. This approach uses 3D scanning to capture asset data combined with automation software to attribute the components within an ArcGIS Utility Network container resulting in a more efficient and economical way to capture data than traditional methods.

ONEOK is a leading midstream service provider in the United States, currently operating in a combined ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing and Esri Utility Network (UN) data model. In April 2024, we started a synergy initiative to integrate an acquired mapping platform into the UN. This session will detail how ONEOK integrated an entire platform into their production UN environment. By fostering a culture of collaboration and adaptability, we ensured that the migration not only met technical requirements, but also aligned with organizational goals, leading to a seamless and efficient transformation.

After implementing the Utility Network, companies face new challenges and opportunities. This presentation dives into the “now what” phase, highlighting shifts in workflows and methodologies. We will discuss integrating new technologies and interdependencies with other COTS and custom tools. Key focus areas include developing comprehensive plans that encompass hypercare and delivery models, emphasizing ongoing support beyond go-live, and the necessity of allocating time for these efforts. Attendees will gain practical insights to enhance efficiency and data management post-implementation.
