Meet Dennis

Dr. Dennis Paustenbach, CIH, DABT, is TRC’s Chief Scientist. He is a board-certified toxicologist and industrial hygienist with nearly 40 years of experience in exposure science, risk assessment, disease causation, chemical engineering, employer responsibility, risk management, and occupational health. With nearly 400 published papers and 60 published book chapters, Dennis’ expertise ranges across a number of different chemicals and potential hazards.
 
Dennis was President and Senior Consultant at Paustenbach & Associates, now TRC, a leader in toxicology, exposure science and risk assessment, specializing in high-end health hazard assessments and litigation support. He and the strategic health sciences team provide expert witness testimony and analysis of the health effects of chemicals in sediments, air, soil, consumer products, foods, groundwater and the workplace.

He has provided expert witness testimonies in over 700 depositions and more than 50 trials. He has held adjunct professorships at six universities and has been a peer reviewer for leading journals and regulatory proposals.

Dennis has authored 300 peer-reviewed publications on the most pressing occupational and environmental challenges – PFOA/PFOS drinking water standard, contaminated foods, airborne emissions, occupational diseases, Prop 65 compliance, and contaminated sites and a variety of other topics.

Additionally, he has written over 50 book chapters and three textbooks on risk assessment. His latest textbook, “Human and Ecological Risk Assessment: Theory and Practice,” was released in April 2024. He also served as the lead editor for the nearly 8,000-page 7th edition of “Patty’s Toxicology.”
