WINDSOR, Conn . — TRC Companies, Inc. (TRC), a global professional services firm and member of WSP providing integrated strategy, consulting, engineering and applied technologies,
ARCforSe is a patent-pending, innovative solution co-invented by TRC’s Dr. Nidal Rabah, John Rice and Barrett Culp. ARCforSe is a novel in-situ alternative to dredging, designed to actively remediate contaminated sediment.
ARCforSe targets a wide range of organic contaminants, including non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dioxins and furans, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and volatile organic compounds. Building on TRC’s patented NAPL Trapping Cap and in-situ foam fractionation technologies, ARCforSe serves as an adaptive Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB) system that can be used as an active alternative or supplemental remedy to dredging, while enhancing natural restoration processes.
This innovative technology combines containment, removal and degradation of contaminants as they migrate from sediment or groundwater to surface water. Key remedial processes include in-situ foam fractionation and recovery, stripping, flushing, biodegradation, and a cap toe vent to trap NAPL. ARCforSe is designed to minimize waste, energy and material consumption, and compliance needs, and mitigate site access constraints making it a green, efficient and cost-effective solution for sediment remediation.
“ARCforSe represents a significant advancement in sediment remediation technology,” said Rabah, Senior Vice President at TRC. “By offering a sustainable and effective in-situ alternative to dredging, ARCforSe is helping to address some of the most challenging environmental issues while supporting natural restoration and reducing environmental footprints with substantial cost and time savings.”
