Cette m\u00e9thode d\u2019essai utilise quatre broches m\u00e9talliques enfonc\u00e9es dans le sol en ligne droite \u00e0 un espacement \u00e9quidistant. Un testeur de r\u00e9sistance au sol est utilis\u00e9 pour d\u00e9charger le courant alternant g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement dans le sol \u00e0 partir des deux broches ext\u00e9rieures. Lorsque le courant \u00e9lectrique circule entre les deux broches ext\u00e9rieures, un gradient de tension se forme dans le sol proportionnel \u00e0 la r\u00e9sistance moyenne du sol. La chute de tension entre les deux broches int\u00e9rieures est mesur\u00e9e, et la r\u00e9sistance moyenne du sol jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une profondeur \u00e9gale \u00e0 l\u2019espacement des broches est rapport\u00e9e par le testeur de r\u00e9sistance au sol.
